A highly successful business leader and entrepreneur, Neil Laughton also has extensive experience leading expeditions in very different and challenging environments. Neil is able to draw upon the hard lessons learnt in both business and adventure when he tailors a talk for a client. He knows equally well how to lead and get the best from a team whether you are intent on establishing and growing a successful business in a competitive environment or assessing risk and the route across testing terrain to reach expedition goals.
'Thank you for your superb presentation today. It really was inspirational. I have had nothing but terrific feedback.'
Neil is a former Royal Marine Commando and SAS Officer. On leaving the military, Neil founded a group of companies in the design, construction and furniture industries. Clients included AXA Insurance, BAA, BMW, Balfour Beatty, Costain, Discovery Channel, Home Office, Rolls Royce, University of Derby, Virgin, Walt Disney and World Duty Free. He grew the organisation to £40m turnover and then sold it to a FTSE 100 Company in 2011.
In his spare time, Neil leads adventurous expeditions all over the world where innovation, determination, risk analysis, effective leadership and motivating a team are key to expedition success.
Neil has completed the Explorers Grand Slam – climbing the highest mountain on each continent including Mt. Everest and skiing to both the Geographic North and South Poles. He has also made twelve first ascents in Greenland, trekked unsupported across South Georgia, circumnavigated the UK on a jet-ski and piloted a flying car from London to Timbuktu.
Neil continues to raise funds for charity by creating fun, adventurous challenges. Neil is passionate about encouraging others to achieve their potential particularly disadvantaged young people. He founded Flying for Heroes in 2014, a pilot scholarship and flying expeditions for wounded, injured and sick Services personnel.
Neil has featured in two TV documentaries. In 'Mission Everest', Neil was in charge of safety in the first ever attempt to fly motorised paragliders over Everest with Bear Grylls and Gilo Cardozo. In 'The Flying Car' (part of Channel 4's Daredevil series), Neil took the world's first road legal bio-fuelled flying car on a 10,000km journey from London to Timbuktu.
With relevant lessons hard won in very different worlds, Neil inspires and challenges his audience whether he is delivering leadership masterclass, a conference keynote, an after dinner talk or a motivational talk for schools.
Speaking with modesty, humour and inspiring footage and images, Neil has a knack of making people believe that they can follow their dreams if only they stepped out of their comfort zone and gave it a go.
